Working with Melissa was an atrocious experience to say the least. She did not listen, she did not have our best interest, and worst of all, she did not guide us through the selling process, which is her primary job.
Had we listened to her, we would have sold our home for less than what was owed and would have had to bring funds to the closing. I understand market value and that there is a current pricing range to each region and location. Melissa however, took this too literally and was unwilling to accept that there is a spectrum to the market value pricing as well as factors that come into play with each specific home. We could not reason with her. Luckily we followed our own judgment and listed our home for more than her "recommended" price. Not only did the appraisal go smoothly with no issues with the amount, but the home sold for more than our asking price.
Part of a realtor's responsibility is to guide their client through the home selling and buying process. That is why people hire a realtor. It would have been helpful had she listed out the steps to selling a house, but more importantly if she would have notified us of all of the costs involved. We were never given warning about all of the little hidden costs associated with the sale of a home and, more often than not, we would be left scrambling to gather funds for something with only a day's notice. Her negotiation skills are also less than stellar. We truly felt that she had the buyer's back more than she did ours.
Melissa was very responsive when we would send a message or call her. She was always available. The problem was that, though she was on the line, she didn't listen to a word you were saying. I was forever repeating myself and reminding her of things I had relayed to her multiple times already. Towards the end of this nightmare I had to send her a message that we wanted to deal with her as little as possible and only when necessary. I also stated that we would communicate only through writing, not only because we no longer wished to speak to her, but to also get everything put into writing. All she did was email us the amended contracts to sign with no guidance or advice. She checked out and left us to fend for ourselves.
I never want to own a home again due to my selling experience with Melissa being so stressful and awful. I never want to go through that again. After the fact, I spoke with a view realtors regarding my experience and the consensus was that she is a sad excuse for a real estate agent.
I am glad that other people have had a relatively pleasant experience with her. I don't want anyone else going through what we did. That is the reason for my review. I want to let people know that there is definitely a possibility that they can encounter the same horrible situation that I did with her. Why take the chance? I want to reiterate how important it is to find a knowledgeable and competent agent. I wish that I had done more research and had been more persnickety with my interviews. When all is said and done, you are the one that has to live in the house that you chose and pay the negotiated mortgage. Melissa gets to collect her commission and walk away onto the next "client".
Melissa was very helpful, flexible, and available throughout the home buying process. She made buying our first home less stressful than we thought it would be.
Melissa was fantastic! She is very knowledgeable and always contactable. I’d gladly use her again, and would recommend her to my friends and family. During the negotiation process she was able to get more than I was asking for.
